Laurens Trio
XTRO
Xtro is a percussion trio, that creates and performs mainly new music and contemporary works, combining theatrical elements and dance. The ensemble involves every kind of audience, stimulating imagination in an ethereal reality made of music, visual and dramaturgical art, costumes and concepts. A connection between acoustic and electronic sounds creates an amazing bond rich of colors that with the intervention of lights turns the concert to an original show. The group, consists by Antonio Bove, Gabriele Segantini and Miguel Varela. From 2019, Xtro collaborates with a range of artists, such as the composers Nicholas Morrish and German Calle, who composed some pieces with and for the group.
Why XTRO?
In math the variable “X” defines the “unknown”. This unknown factor “X” is what makes the ensemble unique, as everything new and unknown intrigues and challenges us. The name expresses a freedom of choice, as rearranging pieces that already exist, collaborating with new composers, creating music and stating our own character.
New Age Connection
New Age Connection consists of 5 Portuguese trombone players, currently studying at Codarts Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Rotterdam. We were founded with the desire to expand the role of the trombone in the chamber music field. That’s why we opted for the unusual formation of the trombone quintet. Nowadays the original repertoire for this formation is almost none, so we arrange our own music and we established contact with composers in order to expand our repertoire variety.
Another crucial factor that led to the creation of the New Age Connection was the good energy we felt while playing together and the good teamwork that is always present inside and outside the rehearsal room.
Currently we present ourselves with a wide variety of styles in our repertoire, with music of composers like Anton Bruckner or Claude Debussy going through new works commissioned by us until the traditional Portuguese music. One of our main goals is to pass to the listener an experience that can become memorable and that will stay in their memories, so that they can continue to share the energy of New Age Connection to the world. To make this goal happening we intend to create collaborations with areas such as dance, theater, cinema, circus, among others, in order to create versatile and dynamic projects.
